In 1986, Arsene Wenger started the french revolution in Arsenal, a revolution which culminated in Arsenal going an entire season unbeaten in the premier league 2003/04 season. That season Arsenal was inspired by the French contingent of Thiery Henry, Viera and Robert Pires and co. The French revolution in recent years has reduced at the Emirates with Germans and Spanish players coming in more to the team. However the french formular is still working at the Tyneside where Newcastle currently boast of the largest French players in their team, 9 of them, including Loic Remy, Debuchy, Goufran, Cabaye, players who have been instrumental in the rise of Newcastle to the top half of the table.
Look closely at the EPL and there is another revolution on: the SPANISH REVOLUTION!
Many years back you don't get to see lot of Spanish players in the Epl. But that is no longer the case today as there are 33 Spanish players registered/playing for all the premiership teams barring :Newcastle, West Brom, Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Hull city!
Who started the Spanish revolution? No one can exactly be pointed at as the case is with Wenger and the french revolution, but what we can say for sure is that given the success of Spanish players in the Epl there would certainly be more influx of players from the la liga to the Epl in the future!
Mata, Chelsea's best player and one of the brightest talent in the Epl until one Mourinho came is moving to United in a deal worth £37million, this has made us throw the spotlight on Spanish players in the EPL. Not counting Mata who has struggled to get playtime under Mourinho we look at the top 7 Spanish players in the premier league.
7) Santiago Cazorla, Arsenal
Injury might have played a part in Cazorla's slow start to the season, but still Cazorla is pure class and is finding form of late. Against Fulham it was the 'Santi Cazorla's show': two classy goals that kept the gunners top and reminded everyone of what threat Arsenal has in Cazorla as the season wores on.
6) Chico - Swansea
The 26 year old was one of the stand out defender last season. Though Swansea with all their Spanish contingents,(9 of them) the highest in the Epl,are struggling yet Chico continues to excel. 19 appearances, 2.5 tackles, 2.6 interception and 6.6 clearance makes the best Spanish CB in the Epl and one of the best in the league.
5) Jesus Navas - Man.City
Use more as an impact player at City but has made enough impact to be considered for this list. 11 appearances 9 of them coming from the bench, still he has gotten 4 goals and 6 assists. At this rate he can only get better.
4)Cesar Azpilicueta - Chelsea
Never mind the long name but surely you must mind this player who is gradually coming unto his own in Chelsea. Mourinho could afford to bench Cole in matches because he has Cesar. He can play both as a right and left full back! Strong on the tackles, 3.6 per game and also read the game well as he makes average 2 interceptions per game! Chelsea need not worry over Cole when he does calls it quit.
3) Mikel Arteta - Arsenal
One wonders what this pass master needs to do to get a call up to the Spanish national team. He remains the lynchpin of Arsenal's midfield, completes an average of 58 passes per game at 92% success. His passes keeps Arsenal ticking in the middle.
2) Negredo - Man.City
The big Spanish forward is relishing life under Pellegrini. Together with Aguero they have formed a deadly attacking unit with him contributing 9 goals and 3 assists thus far. He can only add more as the season progresses.
1) David Silva - Man.City
No Spanish player in the EPL deserves this spot more than him! We can wax lyrical on Silva's silky skills that has been ripping premiership defences apart with one key passes after the other - he makes 3.9 of them per game even more than Ozil of Arsenal who makes 3 per game. In 13 games so far this term he has 4goals and 6assists a brilliant return that could increase as the season wores on.
Know any other spanish player worth mentioning here? Let us know.
