GLO/CAF AWARDS:WHO DESERVES IT?

The last time a Nigerian was in the 3-man shortlist for the CAF player of the year was in 2004 when Jay Jay Okocha placed 3rd behind Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba.Also,the last time a Nigerian won the award was in 1999 when Nwankwo Kanu beat Samuel Kuffor and Ibrahim Bakayoko to the award.Now another Nigerian have a chance to win the award after more than a decade.But the question is,who really deserves it?

 Many will have different opinions.Most Nigerians will root for Mikel Obi while their Ivorian counterparts will root for Yaya Toure.Mikel Obi isn't known for his scoring prowess while both Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba are known for their skills and scoring abilities.

 But many will argue Mikel Obi had a better 2013 in Europe and Africa than his Ivorian counterparts.He won the Europa League with Chelsea,defeated Ivory Coast with Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba in the team on his way to lifting the Nations cup with Nigeria and was named in the tournament's best XI.Also performed well at the FIFA confederations cup when he scored a beautiful goal against Uruguay.

 In terms of scoring abilities,Mikel is no match for Yaya and Drogba.Yaya Toure has grown into one of the best midfielders in the world.He was a nominee for the world best player of the year and has become the engine room of Man City.He has continued from where he left off last season with 11goals and 3assists already this season.

  Many will also argue Didier Drogba wasn't meant to be in the list.What really did he achived in the year 2013?Vincent Enyeama should have being shortlisted instead of Drogba.At least,Fabio Cannavaro(a defender)captained Italy on their way to winning the 2006 FIFA world cup and he won the FIFA world player of the year in the process without even scoring a goal.
