All season Jose Mourinho has made it clear to all who care to listen that the title favourites this season are non other than the rich boys from the Etihad stadium. Is it a deliberate attempt to pile the pressure on City? Is mourinho been honest in his opinion? Well, only he can tell. But what the rest of us are sure about is that the Chelsea team he manages has all it takes to go the way in the title race.
Mourinho may want you to believe otherwise but make no mistake about this, transition or no transition, this team has what it takes to be champion come May 11 and here are the reasons.
LOWERED EXPECTATIONS
All season Jose has.tried to convinced everyone that his team doesn't exist in the title race, though results on the pitch points otherwise. A team that sits just 2points behind league leaders shouldn't be discounted right? But Mourinho will not have you believe such. Even his players seems to share that believe.
Samuel Eto’o scored the hat-trick that secured an emphatic 3-1 victory over United on Sunday, but claimed expectation should not be put on Chelsea. Speaking in Spanish, Eto’o said: “The teams that have to win everything are teams like Manchester United and the teams ahead of us in the table. We know Chelsea finished quite far behind last season. We will see how it goes this season, but I think next season we will have the duty to win. This season we don’t have it.”
Can you believe that? Somebody said the greatest trick the devil has ever pull is making you believe he doesn't exist. Mourinho is doing same and its seems to be just working fine.
EXPERIENCED UNIT
Of the three teams contending for the title Chelsea seems the most experienced. The present crop of Oscar, Mata, Hazard, Ramires and co have won the CL and Europa league. The most experienced members of the team Cech, Terry and Lampard have all won the premiership under Mourinho! Sunday hero, Eto'o might not have won the.premiership before but when you have played for a certain Barcelona and won all that is available what else can you fear? This unit has the proper mix to be in the thick of the action till the season ends.
FINDING CONSISTENCY
After the stale 0-0 draw against Arsenal Chelsea are yet to drop a point in all the 5 matches they have played. This include tough fixtures away to Southampton and Hull and big games at home to Liverpool and United. They are finding their rythm at the right moment!
BIG GAMES
With all the 3 title contenders.demolishing both teams in the middle and bottom half of the table this year's league may well be decided by the big games between the title contenders. So far so good Chelsea looks in good stead; they are yet to lose a big game this season! They have won all the big games at home and drew all the big games away, a strategy? Whatever it is, it may well be the one that wins them the league.
JOSE MOURINHO
When you have him as your manager you can win anything right? Well he has won the league in every country he has coached, even against the Mighty Catalans. On his second home coming to Chelsea few would bet against him winning it again!
