TOP 10 TEAMS AWARDED THE MOST PENALTIES IN PREMIER LEAGUE HISTORY
10) Manchester City - 69 penalties awarded
The rate in which City have been awarded penalties has dramatically increased since the'grew into the team of superstars they are today. Since the 2009/10 season, City have been
awarded 31, which is more than any other side in'that period of time.
9) Blackburn Rovers - 83 penalties awarded
Blackburn won the title back in 1994/95, but have since dropped into the second tier of English football, and don't look like becoming a genuine force again for some time. The penalties they were awarded in the 1990s though, means they make this top 10 with ease, and will likely
remain in it for some time.
=7) Aston Villa & Tottenham - 93 penalties awarded
Spurs have been awarded four spot-kicks this term, more than any other side in the league, whereas Aston Villa have been given three penalties, but have only scored one.
6) Everton - 95 penalties awarded
The Toffees have never been relegated from thevPremier League, and could defy the odds this year and finish in a Champions League position ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and
Manchester United. If they did, it would truly confirm Roberto Martinez's status as one of the
best young managers in Europe.
5) Chelsea - 107 penalties awarded
Just last season, the Blues were awarded an astonishing 11 penalties, which was a Premier League record. Frank Lampard slotted most of
them home, too, as he has done for most of the last decade.
4) Newcastle United - 110 penalties awarded
Since 2002, Newcastle have only been awarded 42 penalties, which reminds os perhaps of the ultra attacking style implemented by Kevin Keegan
in the 1990s, which saw the Magpies come veryvclose to a maiden Premier League title.
3) Manchester United - 111 penalties awarded
When composing this list, we expected United to be at the very top, because of the infamous effect Old Trafford and Ferguson apparently had on referees. It may have been a myth however, as the Red Devils have not taken as many spot-kicks as two of the biggest Premier League rivals!
2) Arsenal - 117 penalties awarded
The Gunners currently top the real PremiercLeague table, but are pipped to the historic penalty table by a fellow English giant. They also took famously the worst penalty in Premier League history, when Thierry Henry and RobertocPires tried to trick the keeper with a passed spot- kick, which went awfully wrong.
1) Liverpool - 119 penalties awarded
No side in Premier League history have been awarded more penalties than the Reds, who are desperate to finish in the top four this season for
the first time in four years. Club captain StevenvGerrard has been taking them for Liverpool for
nearly a decade, and converted one away at Stoke City at the weekend.
